About StenStat |
Here is information about StenStat and its joint owners, Herbert Stenson Ph.D and Linda Buyer Ph.D: Dr. Stenson received his doctoral degee from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He taught a variety of statstics courses at the University of Illinois at Chicago for over 20 years. He is now an emeritus professor there. He founded StenStat as a statistical consulting company in 1983, while a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 1986 Dr.Stenson began writing software for add-on modules to the popular SYSTAT statistical package. The first of these was Testat, a module for analyzing the data from psychological and academic tests and surveys. This was followed by Signal, a module for Signal Detection analysis. Then came QCStat for quality control analyses, followed by Design, a module to generate complex research designs. In addition, Dr.Stenson implemented important extensions for the factor analysis procedures in SYSTAT. All of these add-modules modules eventually were integrated into, and are still part of the regular SYSTAT package. Dr. Stenson developed two free-standing Windows applications called MedRoc and ROCstats for StenStat. Both of these are designed to perform receiver-operating-characteristic (ROC) analyses of biomedical research data. More details can be found by clicking the MedRoc link, and/or by clicking the ROCstats link. In a lighter vein, Dr. Stenson developed a version of Conway's Game of Life. Click the Conway link to find out more about that. Dr. Buyer received her doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is now an emeritus professor at Governor's State University, where she taught for over 20 years. Her teaching involved statistics among other courses. Dr. Buyer has served as a consultant to both corporate and personal clients, some as a statistical consultant, and some for the design of gardens because she is a Master Gardener.
